Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic who is also a public speaking event organizer. Feminist Frequency was established by Sarkeesian. The website hosts videos which include commentary on gender representations in the media and popular culture of today. Anita Sarkeesian was a Canadian and American feminist media critic. She is the author and director of executive for Feminist Frequency A scholarly not-for-profit site that examines the representation of women within popular stories of culture. The challenge of destroying stereotypes regarding women is the main goals of her work. But, she also explores the issue of targeted harassment against women online as well as other communities which have been left out. Sarkeesian, who has the degree of Master's in the field of Social and Political thought at York University, is a well-known public speaking. She has given speeches at TEDxWomen's XOXO Festival and the United Nations Broadband Working Group for Gender. She was fascinated by the gender issue and feminist movements from a very early stage of her life. When she graduated in 2009, in university she launched the Feminist Frequency site. She had a plan to start a web-based series that would examine gender-based representations in video games and ended up being the victim of an online harassment campaign. This attack was not enough to stop her. In fact, it increased her importance as a feminist and media critique. She has won numerous awards to recognize her prominent contributions to the field of feminism. Anita Sarkeesian won awards for her role as a critic of media and also founded Feminist Frequency.
